Zachary Kostjuk

Owner & Artistic Director

Zachary Kostjuk is an award-winning performer, choreographer and dance company owner. Starting classes at the age of four, Zachary has always shown a great amount of passion and love for dance. During his competitive years, he has been recognized numerous times for his emotional conviction, stage presence and partnering skills. Receiving overall awards such as Top Senior Soloist, Top Duet/Trio, and Adjudicator's Choice.

 

Zachary began his tap and jazz training within Ottawa but eventually started travelling to Brockville where he expanded his education and studied other styles such as lyrical, ballet, hip-hop, musical theatre, acro and contemporary. During the past 5 years, Zachary has found a love for teaching and has dedicated his time to providing classes and workshops to multiple dance studios across Ontario.

 

Attending annual conventions,  such as the Canadian Dance Expo and the Toronto Teacher Expo, Zachary is always current with new and upcoming training techniques and choreography. He has had the privilege of studying with some of the best teachers and choreographers in the industry such as Blake McGrath, Danny Lawn, Linda Garneau, Paula Morgan, Tokyo, Jay T Schramek, Everett Smith, and Tamara Freethy. Zachary brings these ideas back to his dancers to provide the highest quality of training and allows them to focus on perfecting their skills for competitions throughout the year.

 

Zachary started Devotion Dance company in 2018  to share his life’s passion for dance to all ages through energetic and structured classes. He is devoted to helping each student find their confidence and strengths while enjoying life through movement.

Julie Pettigrew

Co-Director/Low Mobility Instructor

Julie Pettigrew has seen it from all perspectives: a performer, teacher and a dance mom. With over 30 years of dance experience, she is certainly leaving her mark within the dance community. Julie participated in her first dance classes at the age of three (tap, jazz & baton twirling) and couldn’t get enough of it. She went on to receive top team and soloist marks while competing in provincial and national competitions for baton twirling. Throughout her career she has expanded her knowledge to other dance forms by taking workshops and classes throughout Ontario.  Julie is now one of the greatest assets to Devotion Dance company due to all her past experience. Julie is a wonderfully warm hearted woman, who is always eager to help out clients because she enjoys every moment spent with the DDC family.

Emma Pettigrew

Instructor 

Emma started her dance training at the age of 3 and has 18 years of dance experience.  Emma participated in multiple competitions resulting in top team and soloist marks.  She has also won scholarship awards for top soloist ,  Emma’s has studied jazz, tap, hip hop, ballet, acro, lyrical, musical theatre and Baton Twirling.  She has successfully completed her ADAPT junior jazz.  Emma brings strong leadership skills when it comes to her dance training.

Chloe Boonstra

Instructor 

Chloe started her dance training at the age of 3 and has 16 years of dance experience. Chloe competed in multiple competitions over her years of studying, receiving mostly tap awards. She further studied dance at Canterbury High School, being accepted in the fine arts program in dance arts. Chloe has studied ballet (RAD), jazz, tap, modern, contemporary, lyrical,
musical theatre and character. She has successfully completed her ADAPT pre-advanced tap and ADAPT intermediate 3. Aside from dance, Chloe managed a child, youth, and family department at a local community center, and designed a dance program for the kids in the community. Chloe brings positive energy and happiness when it comes to her dance training, and loves to inspire and teach young dancers!

Samantha Christian

Instructor 

Samantha started dancing at the age of 10, training in musical theatre and contemporary. Soon after, she joined a competitive team and trained in contemporary, lyrical, ballet, jazz, hip hop and musical theatre. She has competed in countless competitions around Ottawa and Gatineau and has won various high score and performance awards for group and solo routines. Samantha has achieved special awards for emotional presence and team work while competing. Samantha has a passion for dance choreography and teaching and loves to share her love for dance with everyone around her.

Alicia Jessup

Instructor 

Alicia began dancing at the age of 6 and hasn’t stopped since. She began teaching and choreographing professionally in 2008 and enjoys sharing her love of the arts with her students. She is a graduate of the University of Ottawa Theatre program and a certified CDTA jazz instructor. 

 

Credits include: Turning Points (independent film), Anne of Green Gables the musical, Beauty and the Beast, Footloose, Peter Pan, All Shook Up, and Mary Poppins.

 

She began teaching at Dreams in Motion in 2011 before moving on to coach the competitive team and eventually becoming the Dance Director. In 2017 she made the move over to FlashPointe Studio, as well as doing some freelance work with studios in Eastern Ontario. Recently, her life led her back to Ottawa where she started her teaching career and she is thrilled to have found a home with Devotion Dance and a place on the adult competitive team.

 

She teaches in lyrical, contemporary, jazz, burlesque and musical theatre styles and brings her passion for story telling and creating unique works to all her classes.

Grace Villanueva

Special Guest Teacher & Choreographer 

An award-winning choreographer in her own right; Grace has been featured in the Ottawa Sun, as one of Ottawa’s top Hip Hop teachers. From 2002-2006 Grace ran her own Hip Hop / Jazz Troupe, DanceFX; with huge success. DanceFX performed at various venues around the Ottawa area, was a featured act for University of Ottawa's GeeGee's Basketball and Football half time entertainment, and had the opportunity to perform at prestigious events like Ottawa Gala 2005, at the Ottawa Congress Centre.

 

Grace started dancing at the age of 3 in Ottawa. She continued her dance training in the Durham Region with Theatre Dance Academy, one of the area's most popular studios until the age of 19. She has been fortunate enough to train with many well-respected teachers including Vlad Novitski (Vlad's Dance Company) and Stelio Calagias (Metro Movement) Grace was an entertainer for Sunquest Cruises; from 1997 - 1999, getting the opportunity to teach and perform ballroom / Latin dance. Grace's own professional dance experiences include industry trade shows for name brands such as Mazda and Air Canada, featured performances at the Canadian National Exhibition, and salsa dancing on national television for CTV's Canada AM. Grace currently runs a successful studio in Brockville, ON (Thrill Dancers) but has made Devotion Dance Company her second home.
