Student Policies
-
To ensure a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment, all students must adhere to the following policies. These expectations reflect the values and professionalism of Devotion Dance Company and apply to all classes, rehearsals, and studio-related activities.
-
Cell phones, drinks, and gum are strictly prohibited in all studios. These items are distractions and pose safety risks.
-
Respect the studio as you would your home. All dancers must clean up after themselves, dispose of garbage properly, and keep personal belongings tidy. Street shoes are never to be worn inside the studio spaces.
-
Students are not permitted to hang on the barres, touch the mirrors, or use the sound system. Equipment should only be handled by staff.
-
Students must never be in any studio without a teacher present. This is a matter of safety and liability.
-
Regular attendance is mandatory. Competitive students who accumulate 5 or more marked absences may be dismissed from the team. All dancers are expected to attend classes consistently and on time.
-
The studio is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please leave valuables at home.
-
Spectators are not permitted in class unless they are specifically invited by the instructor.
-
Use the washroom before class begins to avoid disruptions and lost instructional time.
-
For safety reasons, no jewelry may be worn during class. Stud earrings are acceptable.
-
All students must arrive in full, proper dance attire as outlined in the dress code. This includes having hair securely tied back for all styles, and buns are required for ballet and acro. Proper attire allows instructors to see body alignment and provide effective feedback. Students who are not in uniform will be asked to change or may be sent home. Baggy clothing and sweaters must be removed after warm-up to prevent injury and allow full range of motion.
-
All students must demonstrate respect at all times—for the studio, fellow dancers, parents, instructors, and staff.
-
Classroom behavior must be focused and disciplined. Dancers are expected to remain quiet and attentive at all times. Side conversations are not allowed, especially during across-the-floor work, as they disrupt the learning environment.
-
Equal effort and focus are expected in every class, regardless of the style.
-
Acro tricks are only to be performed during Acro class or under the direct supervision and permission of an instructor.
-
Photos and videos taken within the studio may not be posted on social media without express permission from the Artistic Director. Everyone has the right to privacy and security.
-
Bullying of any kind will not be tolerated. All dancers are expected to uplift, support, and encourage one another. Negative behavior will result in disciplinary action.
-
Disrespectful comments or attitudes—whether about teachers, costumes, choreography, placements, other dancers, or competition judges—will not be accepted, whether directed at members of Devotion Dance Company or other schools.
